I've helped a lot of marketing managers rewrite their CVs recently to get match fit for their job search ⚽️ (and with great success I must say!). So, here are my top tips!

Principle: “stories and number sell”

Your CV should be narrative in its flow and quantifiable in the way you communicate your results.

A structure like this works really well:

1️⃣ Personal Details1️⃣

(self explanatory - no identity fraud please 😝)

2️⃣ Skills 2️⃣

(this helps with AI and CV screening)

e.g. Digital Marketing, Paid Social, Organic Social, CRM Management, Multi-Touch Digital Campaigns

3️⃣ Career Profile 3️⃣

(more important than you think. 4 well-written lines here can make the difference in someone finishing your CV)

💡 Tell the reader what and how you have curated your career and why… where are you going, what is your ambition?

💡 If you have done colours insights or any leadership style preferences, include this and a brief line demonstrating active self-awareness. Give them a view on your work style, make it clear you will put in the hours and the reps to be great (delivery and hard work are back in vogue… 😜 )

💡  This is basically your elevator pitch, which you then substantiate with the content below, so craft it!

4️⃣ Career Summary 4️⃣

(optional, but some people use this to highlight the brands they have worked for – adds impact)

It should be the bare bones of your relevant FMCG career

5️⃣ Career History 5️⃣

(the full package with a focus on challenge, delivery, and quantifiable results)

Structure like so:

💼  i. Role with dates

📜  ii. Responsibilities & Accountabilities

(context needed on team, structure, size of the prize and the challenge and the expectations)

💹 iii. Results

(numbers and percentages are the secret sauce here)

6️⃣ Training and Professional Development 6️⃣

Include all relevant courses: Mental Health at work, E,D&I, Colours Insights, GAP negotiation training etc, Excel & Power BI academy, commercial finance modules, T-shaped leadership…

7️⃣ Home Life, Hobbies and Interests 7️⃣

Playing sport, voluntary commitments, family stuff, all counts and helps the reader build a picture of you

8️⃣ Lastly Education 8️⃣

(not as important as the above, trust me only your Mum is interested in your grade B in GCSE Music...)

Come back here for more tips on how to get match fit for FMCG interviews and get seen...
